Broadrake Bunkbarn - Week 59 7th-13th Dec 2015

At the start of the week, a new home for the brew-up - the drying room to be, yet to be painted
and rules needed to be made...
this was taken at the end of the week so looking a little grubby
but it kept the floor clean upstairs for the 1st oiling on Monday and 2nd coat on Wednesday

Mid-week, Insitu came to start the wash room floor surface, priming and applying first coat - access denied - imperative that NOTHING goes in whilst it's drying
then a 2nd coat with the final colour mix - a limestone/grey/biege mix that looks good with the slate and white walls....the final sealant went in on Saturday - should be dry by Monday

The handles on the outside doors were fitted last week - thumb turn locks since some of these will be fire exit routes.

By the end of the week, possible to get upstairs to see the result - amazing!
The product is Marldon hard wax oil which is environmentally friendly
On Friday afternoon the joiners fitted the legs to the kitchen base units and positioned them roughly...

On Saturday, Mike makes a start on a bunkbed....

(pics will be added later of completed bunk)
and outside in the very cold garage, a start is made on priming and undercoating the skirting and door architraving - 7 done, 28 to go....4.8m lengths of 70mm*20mm square cut
it's much easier to paint standing up rather than crawling around on hands and knees...but that will HAVE to be done for the topcoat.

Broadrake Bunkbarn - Week 58 30th Nov - 4th Dec 2015

Apologies for the delay in getting this week finally uploaded - lots of significant changes, amidst challenging weather and 3 powercuts in 5 days, and internet loss a couple of times too..

This week sees great progress with the slate flooring with final sealing and clean up.

Slate edging goes into the drying room and the main entrance - tricky to the right side of the doorway where there is a very narrow return, so John has split the slate right down to fit...

dusty footprints from the wash will be good to get that floor in too...

upstairs the wooden flooring continues across to over halfway
Ted makes a start on installing the thumb lock latches - a power cut on Monday afternoon meant he was fitting this one by headtorch!!

flooring now almost across the whole room...
 and into the cupboards
another morning & flooring makes it all the way

steps are made into the small room....will need some visible nosing on these since they match so well they are almost invisible....

after a final clear up of cardboard and a sweep out, the space looks amazing

now ready for the oiling to be done early next week

the staircase will be measured up for glass....the view looking up should remain
and the view looking down will be open, light and airy with the glass balustrading

Broadrake Bunkbarn Week 57 23rd-27th Nov 2015

This week sees flooring going in everywhere - so lots of floor pics in various stages
apologies for the poor quality of images....batteries running down...

 entrance hall underway...
the hallway now completed

washroom floors in progress

the enormous room is conquered in one day!
Meanwhile, the joiners upstairs get on with the rest of the staircase construction
and the first few boards go down

all cleaned up and sealed ready for grouting

brewhouse relocated - too muddy outside and too many mice in the stable...
& John enjoyed his 'hot' pie at lunchtime
the slates that are left are all in the entranceway for now....

On Saturday, after overnight drying time for the last sealing off in the entrance, boots were off to keep the floors clean

big room now grouted, home to the tile cutter for the weekend - oh yes, and the microwave!
drying room door trimmed and last slates in place and sealed - grouting next week

upstairs the flooring makes it up to the landing, but is protected whilst in it's unfinished state
plenty of wood left for the 2nd half of the room....
the finished balustrading looking good - will be measured up for the glass next week

kitchen base units stored in the big barn
and worktops and sinks alongside the Massey Fergie - its all nice and dry and everything is off the floor but think we'll move them into the bunkbarn next week

Saturday finds the Herdy boys in their favourite early morning spot why do their eyes reflect white, and not red?
and back down here again out of the gales after the breakfast sheep nuts
